Cranberry-Soy Milk and Green Tea Smoothie

It is a well-known fact that breakfast is by far, the most important meal of the day. Consume a healthy and filling breakfast and it'll keep you on your toes for a significant part of the day. It not only kickstarts your body processes, but also fuels your nerve cells to prepare you for an action-packed morning! So it's imperative to include as many nutrients as you can in your early morning meal. The importance of cranberries for its anti-oxidant properties is known to most of us. Same is the case with green tea, but some of us find it hard to take in the herb tea by itself. So I decided to combine it in a smoothie. I love my smoothies to be milk-based or creamy, and given a choice I would happily add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to my concoctions:) but as we are trying to target a healthy meal, I opted for the soy-milk, which is way more easier to digest, is full of calcium and protein, and less in calorie content. Add a bit of honey and banana and you are all set for a hearty and healthy breakfast smoothie!

Ingredients
1/2 cup frozen cranberries
1 ripe banana
1/2 cup brewed green tea
1/4 cup plain soy milk
2 tbsp light brown sugar or honey

Method
Brew the green tea using fresh leaves or tea-bags. Let it cool down a bit. Then blend all ingredients together until smooth. Pour into glasses and enjoy for a detoxifying, healthy and filling breakfast!

I'm not too much of a soy milk fan, but I like the smoothie! might just try it with regular milk or ice:)

Soy is the toughest challenge for me to cook something with! Except Tofu, I don't like anything.

Awesome idea Mansi. I am sure the tartness of cranberries is negated by tha banana. How in the world did you think of adding green tea to this?

Thanks ppl..glad everyone liked it...and it actually tastes pretty decent, even for non-soy-milk lovers:)

RedChillies - I wanted to make a greentea smoothie for quite some time now; was fed up of drinking plain tea in the morning, so thought adding it to cranberries will lessen the characteristic green tea taste:)

this is very interesting - you think i could do it with dried cranberries as well? i just bought a package from the nearby store and they seem more juicy than dry!!!

This looks delicious, I'm going to have to try it!

Happy New Year :)

Lakhmi - I'm not too confident about dried cranberries, but if you say they are juicy, give it a shot; maybe you could dissolve the sugar for the smoothi in some wate rand soak the berries in it for an hour or so, just to plump them up...let me know how it goes so I can update the post accordingly:)

Kaykat - wish you a great New Year too:)

I don't really like texture of soy milk but this recipe looks so interesting I may give it a try.
I'm running now in the mornings, and when I'm coming back I like to have smoothie instead of breakfast... I will be posting more shakes / smoothies shortly.
Have a great day!

Hi,
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog.
Cranberries -Yum! I had made cranberry chutney a few days back and it was great with samosas. These tiny berries are really something. The bright color is what I like the most.
Will try this smoothie recipe of yours. I would have never thought of adding green tea to a smoothie though. Should be interesting.

Mansi,
I tired your smoothie this morning! :)
I love it, but it did not come out so red like yours, maybe because I used regular milk instead of soy one... I will post picture soon.
Have a great day, Margot
